Over the past year the Canadian native reached the final table in three World Poker Tour main events, including a win at the 2005 Mirage Poker Showdown, a third-place finish at the Second Annual Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship, and a fourth-place finish at the Gold Strike World Poker Open. Those three performances earned Smith more than $1.6 million in tournament winnings.
“Getting to a WPT final table is an accomplishment achieved by many,” said fellow Full Tilt Poker representative Howard Lederer, “but making three final tables in one season, including a win, shows that Gavin is among poker’s elite competitors.”
Smith is the third Full Tilt Poker representative to earn the WPT Player of the Year honor, following in the tradition set by Team Full Tilt members Howard Lederer in Season One, and Erick Lindgren in Season Two.
“Team Full Tilt,” is a select group of the world’s finest professional poker players, including Chris Ferguson, Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, Jennifer Harman, Erick Lindgren, Erik Seidel, Andy Bloch, Phil Gordon, Clonie Gowen, John Juanda, Mike Matusow, and the Hendon Mob.
